PAM BROWN, "CLICK HERE FOR WHAT WE DO" (Vagabond Press, 2018)
In
Copenhagen, I received a book of poetry by the great Pam Brown from Australia.
Earlier, a few years ago, I wrote in one of my literary sketches about her
poetry collection "Missing up", and now I could get acquainted with
"Click Here For What We Do" (Vagabond Press, 2018). Commentators drew
attention to the conceptualism of these poems, their avant-garde formal
solutions, and their aesthetics. This is of course true. We are dealing with
lyrical compositions that are interesting in terms of versification and
graphics. There is no doubt about it. I refer to a very extensive and
interesting essay on this book, which was published some years ago in the
"Sydney Review of Books", where Michael Farrell beautifully analyzed
everything for us: https://sydneyreviewofbooks.com/review/click-here-for-what-we-do-pam-brown/
The main thing that delights me in Pam Brown's poetry are two coexisting
spaces. Erudition, but not hermeticism, leveled intellectual associations that
function symbiotically among “colloquial poster” messages. The effect is
perfect. I have enormous confidence in this formula of the poetic project. It
is not artificial and full of academicism. It's not some beatnik-style project
either. It's closer to the poetry of authors such as Ron Silliman. It is poetry
that is engaged (politically, socially, culturally), universal and unique. I
recommend highly!
